Another long week has come and gone and you're ready to get away for the weekend.

If you have a lot of land and a great view, Joe and Krysti Hamlin can help you escape to an oak log home all your own.

The Hamlins and their business, Green River Cabins at 770 W. Frontage Road in Campobello, have been offering log homes made of pine for more than seven years.

Now they have expanded their business to become Premium Oak Log Homes, an independent representative for Gastineau Log Homes, which specialize in building solid oak homes.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer the outstanding quality of a Gastineau Log Home," said Joe Hamlin. "The qualities that make oak a superior wood for flooring and fine furniture also make it an outstanding choice for log construction."

Green River Cabins is building the Gastineau three-bedroom, 1,493-square-foot "Dakota" model on site and expects it to be completed mid-April.

"People can come and look around to see if they're interested in building a log home," Krysti Hamlin said.

Log homes are a great way to retreat from the hectic world, she said.

Gastineau Log Homes offers over 30 standard models, from the weekend retreat "Trails End" at 451 square feet, to the four-bedroom, 4,859-square-foot "Georgetown."

Design engineers can modify an existing plan, or together you can design your very own dream home, said Krysti Hamlin.

"We serve as a coordinator for people who want to build a log home. They come to us with either an idea already in mind or Gastineau can help them put together a blueprint," she said.

Krysti said the entire process takes anywhere from eight months to one year.

Financing a log home is no different than for frame construction and all major insurance companies insure log homes at the same rates, according to the Hamlins.

"Log homes have evolved and now we can offer our customers even more," Krysti Hamlin said.

Joe and Krysti, along with Gastineau Headquarters personnel, will be hosting a "log raising" on March 29 that is open to the public.
